Advocating for Change

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is actively pushing for legislative changes to protect patients from overwhelming medical debt, utilizing personal advocacy and strategic documentation to support their cause and demonstrate impacts to supporters and stakeholders.

At Digital Image House, we partnered with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) to document their impactful Advocacy and Lobby Day event in Richmond, Virginia. This important gathering showcased LLS's unwavering commitment to curing blood cancers and improving patients' lives through its Office of Public Policy.

The event highlighted the critical role of personal advocacy and storytelling in driving legislative change. Advocates, including survivors and families, shared powerful narratives to illustrate the devastating financial impact of medical debt and the urgent need for reform. This emphasis on personal advocacy empowers each individual to make a difference.

The centerpiece of their advocacy was a groundbreaking bill designed to cap monthly medical payment plans at 5% of income and prevent medical debt from affecting credit scores.

The bill, with its potential to ease financial burdens and protect patients from severe consequences like losing their homes, brings a ray of hope. By fostering bipartisan support within the Virginia state legislature, LLS is paving the way for meaningful change, amplifying the voices of those affected to ensure policymakers understand the human stakes.

It was a privilege to help capture these moments, knowing that our work elevates LLS's mission and highlights the courage of the advocates fighting for a future where patients no longer face the double burden of illness and financial hardship. We are deeply grateful for their tireless efforts and unwavering commitment.
